South Africa is in the midst of a self-inflicted political crisis. After President Jacob Zuma’s recent cabinet reshuffle and the country’s downgrade to ‘junk status’, there has been much talk – but little detail – from the ruling party of ‘radical socio-economic transformation’ and ‘white monopoly capital’.

Meanwhile, existing policies for tackling poverty, inequality and unemployment remain unimplemented, and the ANC engages in destructive, factional battles.

How will South Africa find its way out of the rabbit-hole of corruption and is it possible for the ANC to renew itself? What are the prospects for a new kind of politics after the ANC’s elective conference in December and when Zuma goes?
